The spade anchor (Mantus M2) and the bracket anchor (Mantus M1) are among the most popular anchor types among navigators, as they are versatile, have a particularly high holding force and dig in very quickly. These anchor types are designed to dig in deeper under tension, thereby increasing the holding force.
The Mantus anchors with their wide flanks and very low centre of gravity bring more weight and force to the anchor tip, which favours immediate penetration into the anchor base. This is particularly advantageous if the anchor comes loose, for example due to a shifting wind.
Tests have shown that the Mantus M1 is one of the best universal anchors on the market and the Mantus M2 has an exceptionally high holding force compared to the competition and other anchor types, especially on sandy ground. Although both anchors practically always lie on their side due to their design (exceptionally low centre of gravity) for quick digging in, the M1 has an advantage due to its bracket if the anchor can only lie on its side with great difficulty due to the nature of the ground (obstacles or very soft anchoring ground). The M2 anchor, on the other hand, is less likely to get caught in seaweed and the like thanks to the lack of a bracket. In addition, the design of the M2 anchor makes it more suitable for bow rollers that are integrated into the pulpit. M1 and M2 anchors from Mantus have their specific advantages. Both are ideally suited as main anchors with excellent universal properties and are the first choice for navigators of any kind.
The Mantus anchors can be dismantled. This has the great advantage that an absolutely 100% equivalent replacement anchor or storm anchor can be carried in a space-saving manner, namely the same anchor as the main anchor (or a larger anchor in a storm anchor scenario). It should be emphasised that the anchor does not have any weak points as a result. The bolts are clearly oversized and secured. The weakest link in a failure scenario is therefore the anchor chain link by a wide margin and not the anchor itself. Mantus anchors come with a lifetime warranty.
Characteristics:
- Sizes from 3.6 kg to 80 kg (8 lbs to 175 lbs).
- The design offers the advantage of being able to fit into almost any type of anchor mount on the pulpit.
- Due to the very low centre of gravity, the high shaft and the wide flanks, the anchor immediately returns to the optimum dig-in position.
- The ASTM-certified steel bolt is significantly oversized and, due to the design, only a fraction of the expected forces are transferred to the bolt, which holds them with ease.
